Water is the most essential survival element known to man. Without water life would disappear on this planet and on the small scale in a survival situation it is the first thing you need to stay alive in the wild. Serious contaminants such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and even E. coli contamination are turning up in our “potable” water and streams in alarming numbers. Is there a portable solution you can use to survive with?
Enter the convenience of GRAYL Water Purification. Headquartered in rainy Seattle, they dared to imagine that it should be possible to avoid drinking water hazards, and made that simple to achieve. GRAYL® makes water treatment for every travel occasion. At the tap, on the trail, or when facing the uncertainty of international travel. The interchangeable filter system provides the right filtration for your lifestyle and location. GRAYL® transforms personal water filtration into something that works; a fun easy-to-use personal filtration cup that makes safe, clean drinking water wherever you go. We couldn't wait to give it a whirl in our neck of the woods here in Santa Cruz California where we have tons of trails and streams to try the GRAYL Water Purification setup.
With our ultralite GRAYL Water Purification Bottle in hand we hit the road from Felton to Henry Cowell in our bus Lily. We parked at Henry Cowell redwoods and hiked down to the banks of the San Lorenzo on the scenic trails weaving through the redwood groves. What an awesome ancient forest. We are so lucky to live here. We found a gently moving section of the river and busted out the The Ultralight. It offers the ultimate protection against pathogens, particulates, chemicals and heavy metals. It's a simple wonder to use and may very well be the only GRAYL Water Purification bottle ever needed for safe drinking.
The Ultralight does NOT require batteries, bulbs, chemicals, pumping, sucking, squeezing or even much tome waiting.
Simple fill the cup with water insert the cartridge and plunger and slowly press the water into the inner chamber like a french press. Pretty nifty and so easy anyone can do it. It's meant to fit tight so pressing it a firm two handed procedure but with only minimal effort. We now had drinking water in the GRAYL Water Purification bottle and said “bottoms up”. The water tasted decent and pure and in the days since we did not develop any illness or symptoms so it must have done it's job. GRAYL Water Purification is Bus Junkies approved and a great reason to do some field testing in the woods. Stay tuned for more adventures and lifestyle product reviews.
Fast and Easy to Use
Fill the OUTER [RE]FILL at selected source. Utilizing your body weight for mechanical advantage, press with steady downward force. Drink Freely™.
Tip – Before applying steady downward pressure, ensure the lid is removed and avoid “cupping” the palm of your hands over the top of the INNER PRESS. This allows air pressure to release during the filtration process.
We always recommend pressing with steady downward force at a lower height (either on the ground or a level surface no more than 20 inches) so you can leverage your body weight for mechanical advantage.
For best results, change the filter after 300 cycles (40 gal / 150 L). If water flow rate is noticeably slower than usual then the filter should be replaced.
Yes, all GRAYL components are BPA-free. We only use BPA-free food-grade plastics such as Polypropylene #5 and ABS.
